ENVIRONMENT, CLIMATE CHANGE MANAGEMENT AND GREEN UNIVERSITY POLICY
Alanya University recognizes environmental protection and the fight against climate change as one of the fundamental components of sustainable development and is committed to conducting all its activities with an environmentally sensitive approach in line with its “green university” vision. Our university aims to educate conscious individuals in the efficient use of natural resources, the reduction of waste, and the minimization of environmental impacts, and to make this understanding an integral part of its institutional culture.
In this context, Alanya University has demonstrated its commitment to environmental sustainability in a tangible way by continuing its rise in the international “UI GreenMetric” rankings over the past two years. Our university aims to set an example at both national and international levels through the practices it has developed in areas such as energy efficiency, waste management, sustainable transportation, and environmental education.
The Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts and the Culinary Program play a leading role in disseminating the Zero Waste approach within the university. Within the scope of the activities carried out in these units, efforts are made to prevent food waste, ensure the separation of waste, and effectively implement recycling processes. In addition, the collection of waste oils and their recycling within the framework of the cooperation protocol with Alanya Municipality makes significant contributions to environmental sustainability. Furthermore, practices aimed at preventing wastewater and organic waste from harming nature and contaminating drinking water resources through appropriate filtration methods are meticulously implemented by our university.
Through trainings and awareness activities organized throughout the academic year by the Chemistry Technology Program within our university, our students’ environmental awareness is enhanced. In this process, supported by film screenings, seminars, and practical training, the “Environmental Management and Zero Waste” trainings conducted in cooperation with Alanya Municipality also hold an important place.
Our university also contributes directly to environmental improvement processes by supporting the rehabilitation works of a river located near the Central Campus. Within the scope of these efforts, it is aimed to protect water quality, reduce environmental pollution, and support the sustainability of natural life.
The actively operating Environment and Climate Community plays an effective role in reflecting our university’s environmental policies in practice. Every year, within the scope of November 11 National Afforestation Day, the traditional Hamdullah Emin Paşa Campus event brings together our academics and students in nature, where they participate in afforestation activities. In addition, the project titled “In the Footsteps of Nature: Future Summit with Environmental and Climate Awareness,” which was entitled to receive support under the University Student Communities Cooperation and Support Program (UNIDES) conducted by the General Directorate of Youth Services of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, was carried out at our university through comprehensive events lasting three days. Within the scope of this project, participants from different age groups were brought together, and environmentally friendly practices were encouraged through trainings, workshops, and field activities.
Moreover, the Continuing Education Center organizes trainings on hygiene, environmental awareness, and sustainable living for different segments of society, and the university’s mission of contributing to society is actively maintained in this field as well.
Alanya University will continue its efforts with determination, acting with a sense of responsibility in combating environmental and climate change, in line with its goal of leaving a more livable world for future generations.
