GENDER EQUALITY AND WOMEN’S STUDIES POLICY
Alanya University recognizes gender equality as a fundamental human right and an indispensable component of sustainable development. Our university considers it a primary objective to create an inclusive and fair academic and working environment where women and men have equal rights, opportunities, and resources, free from discrimination. In this regard, policies aimed at eliminating gender-based inequalities are developed and implemented in an integrated manner through education, research, and community engagement activities.
The role of women in society and their decisive contribution to raising generations that reach a contemporary level of development lie at the core of our university’s approach. Women’s active participation in social life as educated, conscious, and empowered individuals directly affects not only individual development but also the progress of society as a whole. In line with this understanding, Alanya University encourages practices that support women’s empowerment in social, cultural, and academic fields and adopts equal opportunity as an institutional value.
The significant representation of women among both academic and administrative staff at our university is a concrete indicator of the importance attached to gender equality. With a governance approach that supports women’s active participation in decision-making processes, the principles of merit, equality, and transparency are upheld, and a fair and safe working environment is ensured for all employees.
To raise social awareness, various events are organized throughout the year. Within the “Women’s Rights Community” established by our students, activities are carried out with the participation of both female and male students, frequently addressing concepts such as human rights, equality, and gender, thereby fostering awareness. Through these efforts, our students are supported in becoming not only academically competent but also socially responsible individuals. In particular, within the scope of March 8, International Women’s Day, talks and panels are organized with the participation of expert female lawyers on women’s rights, gender equality, and the legal and social status of women. In addition, conferences, seminars, and workshops organized in collaboration with the Directorate of Social Services and in the field of women’s policies aim to increase the level of awareness among both our students and staff.
Furthermore, through the elective course “Social Development” offered at our university, topics such as gender equality, sustainable development, and social justice are presented to students within an academic framework. This course contributes to raising individuals who are sensitive to societal issues by equipping students with values and awareness they can use throughout their lives.
Alanya University considers the perspective of gender equality as an integral part of all its activities and continues its efforts with determination to support equality-oriented academic production—particularly in the field of women’s studies—and to raise awareness in society.
